Sugar is practically lurking everywhere. It’s not only in pastries and desserts, but it’s also often in our coffee, soup, and even salad dressings!
Sugar robs the body of nutrition…it is essentially a nutrient mugger. It can cause teeth to rot (bacteria feed off sugar) and contribute to the build up of fatty deposits in the liver. Sugar is the main cause of cellulite, body fat, metabolic issues and joint pain. Sugar also creates an acidic environment in the body which leads to fostering the invitation for disease. Sugar is not a friend…it causes inflammatory responses inside the body that can trigger anxiety, panic attacks, foggy thinking, depression, and it is implicated in diseases such as spectrum disorders, e.g. autism, ADHD, and more. Researchers have concluded in the past few years that sugar is the primary suspect in the role of heart attacks – due to the ability of sugar molecules to clog arteries and develop into plaque. All these years we thought it was cholesterol…and this has proven to be false.
I hope you can see why it would be important to kick the sugar habit – and it is just that a habit. I believe fully that sugar is a drug…it is addictive, and alters behavior especially when used on a daily basis.
Now, I’m not a person who is about deprivation…not in the least. I like a sweet gluten-free treat as much as anyone. But I make sure that what I’m eating isn’t going to negatively impact my health, so I make certain that any treats I enjoy are sweetened with a healthy sweetener, such as raw local honey, maple syrup, xylitol, or stevia.
Getting off sugar will help you to ditch afternoon energy crashes, stabilize blood sugar, help balance your hormones, look younger, and create a more alkaline environment so your mind and body can thrive.
